ECANZ's vision is to be a leading New Zealand trade association to which other industry groups aspire. Our mission: to represent, promote and advance the interests of the electrical contracting industry; those substantially engaged within it, and the public who employ electrical contracting services. To embrace innovation whilst respecting our past
ECANZ’s origins can be traced backed as far as 1925 to that of the New Zealand Electrical Federation (NZEF). In the mid 1980’s the leaders became concerned with the complexity of the federation’s structure, where the branch associations and various activities were starting to become fragmented. In 1988 the ten association branches were brought together via a national association; the NZECF was replaced by the Electrical Contractors Association of New Zealand. The Electrical Contractors Association of New Zealand has a membership of over 1,000 electrical contracting businesses. These members employ over 5,000 electrical workers and have total annual combined sales of $750 million. ECANZ has ten Branches in a nationwide network of electrical businesses operating under the Master Electricians brand. The Association's members at present employ in excess of 1,500 apprentices and this is 45% of the national total. The Association owns the Electrical Training Company Limited (*etco) which employs in excess of 550 electrical apprentices who are seconded to industry.
