Standards Australia recently hosted the launch of the “Does It Comply?” initiative. We support the campaign as we recognise the risks posed by non-compliant products for contractors, installers and the community at large.
As part of the campaign, participating businesses have pledged to use Australian Standards compliant products throughout the supply chain. Promoting the use of internationally-aligned Australian Standards is an essential part of this campaign.
Australian Standards ensure goods and services are safe, reliable and will do the job they are intended for. They achieve this because the standards development process is based on the key principals of transparency, consensus and balanced expert committee representation. This process is regarded as one of the most rigorous in the world.
Standards are voluntary documents with the capacity to solve public policy dilemmas. They are a potential tool which can be applied by governments and industry to provide solutions to policy problems.
The business case for standards is about ensuring quality products and services, Australian Standards have wide range of benefits for business as they:
- Make Australian business and industry more competitive;
- Ensure products manufactured in one country can be sold and used in another;
- Increase confidence between trading partners;
- Help companies compete on a level playing field;
- Give exporters and manufacturers the confidence to reach global markets, safe in the knowledge their products perform globally.
Australian Standards have been developed for over 90 years, providing benefits for the Australian economy and the general community. The Does It Comply campaign is an important illustration of the value Australian Standards still hold.
