The new and improved REDBACK has arrived! The ET-REDBACK 40VA replaces the highly successful ET-REDBACK 60VA electronic transformer for halogen lamps.
Due to the MEPS ban implemented in 2012 eliminating 50W halogen MR16 lamps from the market, and the growing trend to update from halogen to LED, OSRAM has released a more robust and even more reliable REDBACK transformer.
Apart from being smaller and more compact in design, the REDBACK looks the same and retains all the great features of its predecessor, along with improved performance and reliability. Dimmable with both leading and trailing edge dimmers*, it is available as hard wired or pre-wired and features simple wiring for easy installation.
Product Features and Benefits
- Improved performance, stability, robustness and reliability
- Leading and trailing edge dimmer compatible*.
- Compatible with C-Bus, Dynalite and HPM dimming systems*.
- Improved compatibility with LED retrofit lamps due to lower minimum load threshold**
- North/South wiring with large primary terminals for easy loop in/out installations (up to 2 x 2.5mm2 TPS cable)
- Protection against short circuit, overload and overheating
- Smaller, compact dimensions
Why the reduction from 60VA to 40VA?
- MEPS bans introduced in 2012 meant that MR16 halogen lamps >37W were no longer allowed to be sold into the Australian market. In the majority of cases, 40VA is ideal for most downlight applications. For higher wattage halogen loads, OSRAM also offers the HTM series of transformers available in 70VA, 105VA and 150VA.
- Reducing the maximum capacity (60VA 40VA) also means that the minimum load threshold can be lowered (20VA 10VA), leading to improved compatibility and stability with lower loads as seen with LED retrofit lamps.
Application areas
- For use with all domestic halogen and LED** downlight applications
* Dimming compatibility only guaranteed with halogen lamps. Dimming performance and compatibility cannot be guaranteed with LED lamps. When dimming LED lamps, always refer to the lamp manufacturer’s specifications and recommendations. Dimming behaviour may vary between different dimmer types. Independent tests are recommended to confirm the dimming performance before commencing a large scale installation to ensure acceptable performance.
**Compatibility with LED lamps cannot be guaranteed. Always refer to the lamp manufacturer’s specification sheet for transformer compatibility and recommendations.
