Safety is of paramount importance to EYE Lighting which is the driving force behind our partnership with the “Does it comply?” campaign initiated by NECA and Voltimum.
As a supplier of reputable and compliant product, EYE Lighting will help create the awareness in the industry about the importance of compliant and non-counterfeit electrical products.
Recent research undertaken by fire protection specialists Wormald shows the most common cause of workplace fires (29%) were the result of electrical hazards.
Here are some tips to ensure safety when dealing with electrical equipment, especially lighting:
- Check products comply with all relevant standards and have been tested.
- Always follow manufacturer installation and maintenance instructions.
- Ensure fixtures are suitable for intended use by considering IP ratings, ambient operating temperatures, vibration and other environmental conditions such as corrosive elements.
- Perform maintenance and safety inspections on a regular basis.
- When installing or maintaining electrical products always ensure they are disconnected from the power source.
- When undergoing maintenance consider the use of portable lighting to maintain safe lighting levels to prevent accident or injury.
- Avoid unmaintained and/or non-compliant products as they may be more prone to develop safety and performance problems such as electrical malfunction.
- Never attach anything to a luminaire that is not designed to be attached.
- Ensure luminaires have adequate ventilation and are not covered.
- If in doubt always seek advice from the manufacturer.
