Keeping an EYE on Safety

As a supplier of reputable and compliant product, EYE Lighting will help create the awareness in the industry about the importance of compliant and non-counterfeit electrical products.
Recent research undertaken by fire protection specialists Wormald shows the most common cause of workplace fires (29%) were the result of electrical hazards.
Here are some tips to ensure safety when dealing with electrical equipment, especially lighting:

  1. Check products comply with all relevant standards and have been tested.
  2. Always follow manufacturer installation and maintenance instructions.
  3. Ensure fixtures are suitable for intended use by considering IP ratings, ambient operating temperatures, vibration and other environmental conditions such as corrosive elements.
  4. Perform maintenance and safety inspections on a regular basis.
  5. When installing or maintaining electrical products always ensure they are disconnected from the power source.
  6. When undergoing maintenance consider the use of portable lighting to maintain safe lighting levels to prevent accident or injury.
  7. Avoid unmaintained and/or non-compliant products as they may be more prone to develop safety and performance problems such as electrical malfunction.
  8. Never attach anything to a luminaire that is not designed to be attached.
  9. Ensure luminaires have adequate ventilation and are not covered.
  10. If in doubt always seek advice from the manufacturer.
