With ‘global sourcing’ Australia is becoming more susceptible to the importation of products that do not comply with our standards of safety. These products can have dire consequences.

The extent of non-complaint product in Australia was made apparent in a survey conducted by NECA and Voltimum. With over 300 responses the survey revealed that over 75% of contractors had come across non-compliant product being used in Australia.

How conscious are you of there being non-compliant electrical products available for sale or being used in Australia?

The issues of non-compliant product don’t only lie in the faultiness of the products themselves, but the lack of understanding surrounding liability and the absence of the education needed to detect unsafe products.

If you install a product that fails as it did not meet Australia Standards, in your opinion who would be responsible for any damage caused?

The Does it Comply? campaign strives to unite the entire industry to together fight these problem. Thankfully it’s evident that this is a fight that contractors also want. With over 200 claiming to only purchase products that are compliant to the Australia standard it is clear that the industry understands that non-compliant product are dangerous and a serious safety concern.
