AS/NZS 1158.6 Lighting for roads and public spaces

Published: 24 October 2014 Category: Industry News

Standards Australia (SA) Technical Committee LG-002, Lighting for Roads and Public Spaces, is currently revising AS/NZS 1158.6 Lighting for Roads and Public Spaces, Part 6: Luminaires. The proposed revision will supersede AS/NZS 1158.6:2010, which was published in 2010.

AS/NZS 1158.6 Lighting for roads and public spaces
The principle difference in this proposed revision is the separation of the safety  requirements and product performance requirements for road lighting luminaires into two documents, AS/NZS IEC 60598.2.3 and SA/SNZ TS 1158.6, as follows:

i) The minimum safety requirements for road lighting luminaires will be provided  in AS/NZS IEC 60598.2.3, Luminaires—Particular requirements—Luminaires  for road and street lighting, which is a proposed direct text adoption without  modification of IEC 60598-2-3, Ed.3.1 (2011); while

ii) The second document, SA/SNZ TS 1158.6, comprises technical specifications for product performance, as well as requirements for solid state lighting (SSL)  light sources. The objective of SA/SNZ TS 1158.6 is to specify additional requirements for the design, construction, and performance of luminaires for roads and public spaces. These requirements are to ensure effective luminaire performance in the varying operating and environmental conditions in Australia  and New Zealand.

These documents will be entirely separate and compliance with AS/NZS IEC 60598.2.3 will not be dependent on compliance with SA/SNZ TS 1158.6. In accordance with Standards Australia’s standards development process, both proposed  draft documents will be open for public comment for nine weeks.

The proposed draft DR AS/NZS IEC 60598.2.3, Luminaires—Particular requirements—

Luminaires for road and street lighting will be open for public comment from Monday, 29  September 2014 to Monday, 1 December 2014. The proposed draft DR SA/SNZ TS 1158.6 will be open for public comment from Wednesday, 15 October 2014 to Wednesday, 17 December 2014
